The body speaks what the mind often cannot. Every experience we have in life is processed through our physical bodies. REGISTRATION INCLUDES ALL DATES. Experiences with trauma create patterns of disconnection from the wisdom in our bodies. In this course we will practice witnessing how our own experiences are manifesting in our bodies and our lives. Witnessing our own journey is ultimately what prepares us to witness and guide the journey of another. Through intentional and classical yoga we are able to create intentional pathways for connection and wellbeing. Considering this, our training is based on resiliency, embodiment, and deep connection. The layers from trauma can vary in complexity and needs. Taking into account the whole person, we teach an experiential process over a prescription. In this training you will learn to facilitate an inquiry of presence and deep listening to the body. This inquiry allows the clients or students to explore the skills and abilities needed to find their own way to cope with trauma-related symptoms and the supportive space to reclaim their bodies and their lives.

“Through relationships, trauma survivors can learn to feel safe, trust others, learn new ways of relating to people, and develop self-compassion” (Van der Kolk 2014). The relationship between the Trauma-Centered Equity Yoga Educator and client/student is shared, authentic, expansive, and inclusive of the whole human experience. The Educator engages from a place of presence, trust, and safety to initiate conscious conversations about equity, and decolonizing of the healing process. “The biomedical approach and associated interventions fail to acknowledge the value of healthy and meaningful relationships, which mitigate the destructive impact of trauma” (Van der Kolk 2005). This limits the potentiality of re-traumatizing our clients and students.
This training includes evidence based protocols for working with trauma
survivors and those directly or indirectly affected by trauma. These
protocols are currently used/taught in yoga studios, hospitals, wellness
centers, other health care facilities, prisons, and addiction centers,
mental-health facilities, both as stand-alone programs and as a
complementary mental health modality. Learn how to facilitate private
Trauma Sensitive Equity Centered Yoga sessions or integrate yoga into
your current profession and offerings.
Meet Your Lead Instructor
Erin is lead trainer for Starr Commonwealth, serving communities, families, and children. She is also the founder of Sacred Being Yoga. Erin lives by the deep belief that all beings are sacred, and she is dedicated to making space for people to experience their sacred wholeness in connection to Self and the universe. Erin began her journey with studying, practicing, and teaching yoga and mindfulness 23 years ago. She has studied mind/body practices, multi-cultural counseling, and trauma informed yoga therapy practices. Erin has guided trauma sensitive yoga practices for trauma survivors in both group and individuals. Erin is passionate about living Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of a beloved community.
